Could the spring under the seat be getting weak? When these pan seats lean back too far it raises havoc with your back. They're surprisingly supportive at the right angle.

Hi Pat, Many years ago I bought a Joy-Rider seat for my H from TSC. Liked it well enough I put one on the MD and WD9 too. They have a square cushion with back rest and a good suspension, very easy to make new cushions yourself. Don't know if they are still available but would reccomend if you can find one. Good luck, Chuck

I have a garden tractor seat, very comfortable, that I'll trade your pan for.....you could probabally use the orignal seat supports and some sheet medal and make a bracket for it. If you are interested in it, call me at 937-570-9263 I can send you a picture of it. Only used it for a few monts.

I just don't understand it. Back rests and arm rests just hurt my back when the tractor bounces around, and get in the way of sitting "sidesaddle" when your neck gets tired.

I don't even tighten up the seat mount, I like the seat to float from side to side as it bounces to save wear and tear on my back.

I know I am in the minority.

Andy, I am right with you! I just took the high back seat off my M and it was the best thing I ever did! The way the spring sets on it made the backrest useless and acually when I did lean back it was uncomfortable. If someone wants the high back , it is out back in the pile going to the dump soon, come fetch!

I put on a plain old metal pan on the H a while back and bought one of those nice new original padded type. Sits great, but when I go down steep hills I feel like I will slide off. Didn"t do that with the metal one. I guess metal makes for more butt friction ,LoL!

I added a backrest to my pan seat on my H. Gives me something to lean back against once in a while. Not too tough to fabricate and it bolts on using the bolts that attach the pan.

I"ve thought about getting one of those garden tractor seats with a backrest, too.

That's a pretty slick setup. The second mower gets what the first misses :-)

LOL - The other tractor was hooked to the auger at the time I wanted to get things ready to go to the field, so the H gets used for hooking things up and bringing them to the yard to be repaired.
