I just bought a IH 2404 (1963) has a loader (IH 2000) has a cat 1 or 2 not sure 3 point hitch. But has no PTO . how hard would it be to install a PTO on this unit? there is a blank cover plate where the PTO should be. Can parts be had for this unit? thanks

A parts book could tell you in a flash. I suspect all you need is the extension shaft from the countershaft and the PTO itself. I am really out of my element on the smaller tractors like the C and 404.

Bear in mind that you certainly won't find IPTO parts for that tractor.

Ok, let me rephrase the question; does anyone know if 2404's or 404's did in fact come equipted with PTO's as an option?

Yes, PTO was an option. If your tractor has the straight 4-speed trans, it should just be a matter of installing the extension shaft, shift tube, and the PTO unit. Farmall C, Super C, 200, 230, and 240 parts should work. If you've got the 4-speed with high and low range, it's gonna be a little different ballgame, as I beleive those models used a different set-up that was probably unique. With enough time and money this can be done, get yourself a parts book.
