I'm trying to start up a early 40's M that's been sitting a long time and gas runs out of a small hole in the bottom of the carb. Would that be a drain in need of a bolt or is that maybe an overflow, meaning the float is stuck open? I don't know the maker of the carb but hopefully this sounds familiar to someone. Thanks

Probably nothing wrong with either the float or the float valve. The most likely problem is that the float has rusted to the float hinge pin and is now in a "fixed" position.

If the tractor has been sitting for quite some time you will be time and money ahead to just pull the carb off, give it a thorough cleaning and rebuild it.

What Allen said, and they are kinda notorious for the float sticking on occaision. I always try to shut off the fuel when I shut it down.

Normally functions as an overflow for when ya choke it to much.

If the fuel runs out continually however, the float is stuck or the needle/seat is not shutting off the fuel inside the carb.
