Got a 400 yesterday went to start it, it popped off right away ran a bit and died. I am thinking fuel problem. Where do I un bolt the carb to take it off for cleaning and which parts are easy to clean with out tearing it down all the way?
Thanks
Lance

First, make sure there is gas in the tank. Second, make sure the shut off valve under the tank is open, and that the sediment bowl is clean. Third, remove the fuel line from the carb, and check for fuel flow. The flow should be like a flood, not just a trickle. If those three checks pass the test, most likely it is time for a carb rebuild.

Is the carb rebuild easy to do or something that should be taken to a mechanic to do? I have split tractors to take the TA's in and put in clutches and stuff like that but I always thought carbs were intricate pieces you that you don't touch if you are unsure about yourself.

To add to what rusty said. After doing what he said pull the carb drain plug and check for gas flow there also. If no flow try tapping the carb some it maybe a simple stuck float/needle which tapping may pop loose. Carbs aren't all that bad to rebuild but you do need some carb cleaner to soak the carb in over night and a good kit to put back into it. A good kit will have instructions on how to do the job
