Alright guys - here's a stumper for you. I have a 615 combine with a C263 gas six cylinder. I got this last fall and just started on it. I noticed it was missing on no. 3 and no. 5 cylinders. So I replaced the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, points, and condensor. Still missing on 3 & 5. I removed the cap and bumped the motor over slowly and i've got spark out of all 6 lobes of the points, however, I am still not getting spark out of the cap on #3 and #5. Where should I go next??

Thanks for any help.

Wiggle the distributor shaft side to side, up and down, not in and out. If you can feel any play at all (be very sure or use a dial indicator) it is toast. When driven at speed the dist cam moves to one side and prevents the points from opening enough to allow coil voltage collapse. (no dwell) 153624 puts them together on the firing order. Set the point gap at .025 instead of .020 and I'll bet it changes reality. They can be rebushed, with a longer bushing to find original diameter shaft. My best guess, there is not much else it could be. JimN

Like Bob and Hal said:

New bad cap, wobbled distributor. Or, possible crossed wires or bad compression.

I want to clarify a bit. I tried (2) caps, both of which work fine on my 806 Gas. Also, it's not just missing on 3 & 5 it actually has NO spark on 3 & 5 (i've checked this).

Any other options besides bad distributor?

Thanks

Well, you know it is a spark problem, so it can't be compression or fuel related. How did you determine that you have spark at each flat on the distributor drive? Did you switch rotors with your 806 when you switched caps? Did the spark plug wires pass a continuity test?

sounds like when you replaced the wires etc and it still missed, you should look elsewhere, like a intake gasket leaking and sucking air, my 301 in 806 did that and it was loose bolts on int and ex manifold letting it suck air. good luck.

Are the distibutor shaft bushings badly worn?
