Question about a water jacket plate

So I pulled the water jacket plate off my H like I said last week (Broke a bolt and a stud, but drilled and tapped them today with some help from a club member) So today I took a wire brush to the back of the plate where the water channels are to try to knock off some rust. Well, chunks of those channels broke off from being too rusty. So I'm thinking, if I'm going to have to replace it, now would be the time. I saw a new water jacket plate on YT for $55. That's a good chunk of change for me right now. So I'm wondering if I should just deal with what I have, or spend the money now and just set back my progress a little?

It doesn't say on the site whether he carrys tools or not. I'll ask. Is this something you need, or I'm going to need? If for me, why will I need it?

Check around and you can find for less than $30.

Since you are not going to be working this tractor hard this plate is one part that you could reuse and save your money for more critical items. It is a fairly easy job to replace it later when you can better afford it.

Mike,

Check with Steel Wheel Ranch for this also. Seems that I paid a lot less than that for a new one from Mike. Course that was about 4 years ago, but it seems that I only paid around $30 for it with a gasket. HTH. Larry

Oddly enough Mike has an ad in the current issue of Red Power Magazine that lists them for $25. Could be a misprint.

CNKS,

If I think about it I'll check my receipts tomorrow. I doubt if that's a mis-print. Mike is pretty reasonable on most of his stuff.

You can get by with the old one, but you have it apart, so replace it. As tractor parts go $55 is cheap, Case-IH probably wants twice that much. You also need a gasket. If I was "restoring" your tractor, I would have $4000 in it in a few months.

"If I was "restoring" your tractor, I would have $4000 in it in a few months." Yep! I still haven"t had the nerve to add up all the tranny and rear end bearings, electrical, tires and all the other stuff I fixed or replaced. It might be very close to that $4000 mark, but now the old girl is like new and working off the bills! It will probly be wore out again when it is paid off:(

Not hard at all to spend 4000 on any of them. Gonna cost me that much on an engine or two. Then it will need tires and one rim. I am looking at 6000 before all is done.
