Can someone help me diagnose the origin of a high pitched whine coming from deep within the bowels of my 300U? The sound seems to be located in the transmission and sounds similar to that of a failing truck differential. It is present whether I am in gear or not and is silenced by engaging the PTO! Should I be proactive about this noise or is it "normal"? Thanks a million!

The noise is comeing from the planetary gears in the pto unit. Some noise is normal with wear. Be sure to check the oil level in the pto unit. It filled seperate from the rear end. Has a check plug on the left side of the pto houseing. If you have a fast hitch will have to remove top cyl pin & swing the cyl back to get to the plug. Fill through the check plug hole, takes 2 qts. Use Hy-Tran same as rear end & trans.
