Don't use any type of engine oil in any of the IH live hydraulic systems! The engine oil may be used in the belly pump (non-live) systems, though.

Use Hy-Tran or any good transmission/hydraulic combo oil.

Before touch control fluid was manufactured, IH's recommendation was SAE 10. It won't hurt a thing.

Won't hurt a thing. Gramps's bought a Cub with live hydraulics new in 1950. The manual that came with it says to use non detergent SAE 10 in cold climates, SAE 20 in moderate climates and SAE 30 in hot climates. I have used SAE 30 in my 49 C for more than 30 years and nary a problem.

I used 10w30 in my SC for about 15 years before I rebuilt the engine. The pump front seal leaked about as much oil as the engine burned so I would check the engine oil level and fill the hydraulic reservoir.

Owen, it won't hurt anything. These old gals don't care what kind of oil is in them.If it leaks it better be thicker than Hy-Tran. Engines don't like Hy-Tran to well. I use the 30 weight so I can carry a quart on each tractor. Hard to tie a bucket of Hy-Tran on there with me. I use 30 weight in my 350 and all my tactors except the 666 and it is the only one I have ever had to replace a pump in.
