ATTN you gurus out there and side steer specialists....(Especially you guys with 100's )..... ....I need to ask'ya something.

Is this mower too big for my little 100?

It's a 5 foot Ford brand mower that I picked up a while back.
No matter what I can't get my little tractor to pick it up without too much trouble and when I engage the PTO it nearly kills the engine. Is this just too much for the little 25 hp?

This is no worn out 100. I have a fresh engine in it, correct timing, runs fantastic and will just about pull anything. When I hook up to this I bog down????? I have factory new compression, governor settings, etc.

What are you fellas pulling with your 100's? What size mowers?

Get an override clutch on the PTO. Also start out the PTO at lower RPM. The override clutch allows you to start up the mower first, then put it in gear. Also critical that the blades are sharp. It should pick it up OK, but may need extra front end weights for better steering. In tall grass 1st gear a must. One last thing, does the mower turn over by hand easily. If not could be a mower gearbox problem.

Don't know about lifting it on a 3 point with a 100, but we have pulled a 7 foot Bush Hog and a 8 foot finish mower with B's and C's for years. So the 100 should have enough power to turn it. I use all trailing type mowers as they are safer on small tractors. Won't rear you up as easy.

I had a farmer to mow a field for me about 30 years ago. He had a big JD tractor with a 9-foot sickle bar mower on it. It didn't take him very long. In less than a year he rolled that tractor
and was killed mowing someone's pasture. One of my co-worker's was driving his Ford LTD and had a few too many drinks and hit this same farmer's son
that was on a tractor a few years after the father was killed. The son wasn't injured, but the LTD was totaled and there was a lot of damage to the tractor. They flew him to Shock Trauma in Baltimore. He was back to work in about 6 weeks.
and is still living. He doesn't drink now. He said if he had been sober he probably wouldn't have survived. Hal

Do not know about picking mower up but I pulled 5 ft. King Cutter trailer mower for years with a well worn A (40 years since last overhaul) it pulled mower fine 90% of time but would have to move over and take half width cut in tall thick grass.

I would think it would run it just find. I had a 52" Hardee made for a off set and it was the heaviest mower of this size range I had seen. mine lifted it even with a broken relief spring in the pump. I do have one of those helper springs for the lift tho.

Patrick: I have little or no experience with this type of mower. However following YT discussion the past several years, I would suggest the 100 should turn that mower. It may well be too much load in heavy mowing. You'll have to consult the experts on that matter.

Looking at the mower I think the hydraulic lifting will take the 100 to it's limit, may be beyond limit. I say think as I would need to see your tractor hitch, before making a final decission re lifting. Send me a photo of tractor hitch, I'll give my opinion. Do you know how much that mower weighs? Offset tractors (SA, 100, 130 and 140) will lift close to 1,000# if load is within 2' of hitch point, however they fall down fast as weight gets further from hitch point.
