I am trying to remove the crankshaft weights on a German 310 diesel. Can anyone give me the size of Star bit socket to use? I tried a T-60 but it was too big. Is it an IH specific socket. I could not find it in the manual.

Thank you!

The tool is a 14mm triple square driver. Mine has "Hazet 990" for name and part number, made in Germany. I got it about twenty-five years ago from Owatana Tool Company. They were the suppliers for IH special tools. In recent years I have seen some of these drivers listed in Snap-On or Mac tool catalogs, but I do not know if they go as large as 14mm.

The IH repair manual says to use a 3/8" drive extention to remove the bolts. I always found that I destroyed a few bolts every time I tried doing it that way, so I bought the special tool. It may work better if one were to grind the end of the extension flat before trying to loosen the bolts.
