Hi Last Saturday I purchased a 350 Hi Utility gas that has a New Idea loader on it. I paid 2000.00 for it and thought I got a good deal on it. I bought it to do some work around the farm, cleaning up after the steers and such. It runs good no smoke and has a full hydraulic loader. Well when I started to look up things on it I found that it is a pretty rare tractor. Sorry but I was an Allis Chalmers user before and didn't know much about IH although 3 years ago I purchased a Farmall 560. So here are a few questions. Body is straight no dings or dents but is in need of a good paint job. Do I do that or keep it original? The dust caps on the spindles to the hub are pitted and are a quarter of the way gone, any quick fixes? My IH dealer says 2 weeks on a manual, but in the mean time the hydraulic fluid needs changing badly, its a nice milk white right now. Does the 350 have a filter like the 560 and if so where is it. Brakes are soft scared to take them apart just yet with out a manual, any Ideas. From reading most of the posts on the Hi Utility the real concern on finding parts seems to be, besides cosmetics, would be the front spindles, is this correct?
Any Ideas on this tractor are appreciated, by the way the serial number is 17367

Sorry haven"t got back to thank you all, by the way I am in Orfordville, Wisconsin. He is a question that i stumped my IH dealer on maybe someone knows the answer.
I am replacing gaskets on the Power take off drive unit on my 350, also have TA so hopefully i am calling this the right thing. Well this unit is right behind the engine. On the drive unit is a metal plate , that the IH dealer is calling a rear clutch housing cover, looks like the letter T well at the bottom of the plate at the lower end of the T are two holes on the casting on either side of the T well these seem to be dripping fluid. I looked at my 560 Farmall in has somewhat of the same kind of set up and there seems to be plugs in one side but not the other. No leaks on the 560. Any ideas what these holes are? have not put fluid back in yet. When I drained the unit it seemed to have enough fluid in it so I am not sure if this was a leak or just fluid caught up inside the holes. Any Ideas? thanks in advance.. PS one other question, under the seat is a handle that has a curved hook on it, it comes off and to my best guess it is to loosen the clips on the fast hitch from the drivers seat. thanks again.. Pat

If you mean the exterior dust caps, Mike at Steel Wheel Ranch will have used ones -- 785-548-7437. Clean it up, fix any leaks, paint it and use it. Some purists do not like to paint an original tractor, you can do as you please. IF you do a good job the value will increase. In my opinion, quicky paint jobs decrease the value of a tractor, good ones increase the value. The 350 and 460 Hi Utilities are beginning to be noticed, meaning the price will likely go up. I have a 460 Hi Utility. Take care of it!

Pat:

Brakes are straightforward, you should be safe just going at them without any manual.

Hydraulic filter is located inside the reservoir, under the seat. You have to pick the reservoir cover STRAIGHT up to get at it or you'll wreck the filter. The cover is heavy, so your best bet is to have some good strong help and a plan for setting the cover down somewhere (on a couple of 4x4s works) if you decide to go after the filter. Replacement fluid is Hytran, available at your IH dealer (5 gal. should do the entire system including the loader). Drain for the hydraulic reservoir is a plug under the hitch cylinder bracket. If you have factory power steering, I think that's where the return line from the steering column taps into the reservoir.

If it was me, I'd go ahead and paint the tractor.

Good luck. Sounds as though you got a great buy.

That one went to over $3900 and still didn't meet the reserve. Makes me feel really lucky to have found one at $1800. She has worked hard all her life, and we're replacing some worn parts, but she still runs.

Nice purchase pat. I would probably not paint a loader tractor if i was using it, but being a high utility, i would take the loader off and restore it, then find a loader tractor. Just my opinion. The brakes come apart pretty easy, and parts are available. Mine were stuck more than anything, so a good cleanup took care of that for me. Keep the sheet metal good.
