I got some questions. First off, does anyone have a 39 with the small fitting in the bottom of the fuel tank? this is gonna be for a dual fuel, prolly real early and should have a shutoff on the big tank and the sediment bowl mounted on the starter tank, or at least thats the only way i can see it workin. anyone got one they"d take a picture of? seccond, would anyone have the hard to find 39 parts they would wanna make a deal on? seat, starter tank, pto cover, radiator with the little thumb fasteners. also, did they use the same lights front and back as the later models? thanks. Adam

I have the seat and it as good as they come, Has good tool box and the seat pan has the holes where the seat pad was riveted on.
Want to make me an offer? I seen one at a steam engine show that need a lot of work, like a new tool box and he was asking $400. E-Mail me for picture.

I should clarify a little of what Ive seen how the gas lines run. comeing off the bottem of the large tank there is a needle valve real close to what a MD uses. The line comes from that valve and has a loop about half ways to the small tank were it hooks into the IN port on the sediment bowl that is attacted to the small tank. The other line comes out of the sediment bowl OUT port and runs through the front main gas tank mount. (if you look from the side under the small tank and look tward the tank mount you will see the 2 holes) After if goes through the mount it makes a bend down tward the carberator were it attaches. I dont have pictures but this it the best I can explain it from what Ive seen

so the story is there is either a sediment bowl on both tanks or on the starter? can one of you guys take a picture of your setup and post it or send it to me? i dont think theres any way a regular style sediment bowl is gonna fit between the tank and starter the way the early tanks are set up, and the fitting in the botom of the large tank is smaller and further forward than the later tractors, althought the fitting in the starter tank is the right size for the sediment bowl assembly. adam

on my 40 h there is a shut off on the sediment bowl on the large tank.that fuel line runs over to the fitting on top of the sediment bowl on the pony tank.that sediment bowl also has a shut off on the top.so that sediment bowl screws into the bottom of the pony tank, with the fuel line from the big tank going into one side, and then feeds the carb through a line that goes out of that sediment bowl.2 bowls,2shut offs.pony tank can be shut off and fuel still feeds through from large tank.

I have both a 39 H and M you are correct about the sediment bowl being under the small tank. From what I have seen the MD uses the same style shut off valve under the big tank. The lights were not offered till I believe sept of 39 (its in Guy Fays book Letter series tractors) The had rectangular rear hook up. Also the bracket for the rear light on a 39 is really different. Parts are hard to find for these, I am just finishing up a seat for my H that I made useing the M one as a patteren. Paul

go to the caseIH webb site and pull up the h parts book and look and see if there were any changes in part numbers

actually, i have 2 of them. 1 has been in the "family" since 1942. i made a seat for it as the original was gone. if you can weld and work with metal it will not be that hard to build one. both have the starter tanks.

thank you skk... this was my grandpas tractor. and his dad bought it right before he passed as the first tractor ever on our farm. they are both gone but this tractor has become my soul mate. some things about it that they changed are gonna stay that way... that being said, all the casting codes match up (close) its serial 784, i have the origional block that is perfect but needs sleeves, id just like to make some of the equipment the was rigged out of "poor-ness" to look and function like it did when my stuborn old grandpa's rears' were on it when it shined off the showroom. thanks, Adam

Yes you are correct the sediment bowl goes in the starter tank and the shutoff valve in the main tank. Got a early H owners manual and lots of pictures to prove it.

Lights were not quite the same, electrical connector on the back is rectangular. There is a pair on eBay now for $100. But actually there is some debate on if the likes were actually offered in 39. Somewhere I originally read mid 40s or possibly 41, if memory serves me right. It might be in Guy's book. Read the thing multiple times and still learning. I'm trying to pin down for sure.

I don't actually believe a rear light was offered right at first, or if it was it was just a simple plain light light light the fronts, not a "dual" offering with the red tail-light. Lens might have been different than the front. The very early ones also had a "two-point" mount for the rear light. A cast piece that connected under two of the transmission cover bolts.

Original style square channel frame seat support and flip seat. Hope you have lots of money. Hard to come by and very pricey.

Also you need to check the casting dates on everything to make sure it matches and has not been pieced together or had major parts replaced.

Working on one of these if you want to get it correct is a true labor of love and tedious. In my opinion. I have one.

I have a rear light with the correct lens, but the housing does not have the correct rectangular insulator. I may put it on ebay.
