If you searched the archives you would already have found my Troubleshooting Procedure for non firing but do the easy simple things first like Old n Jim suggested to insure at least hot voltage is getting to the coil and the distributors lil side pass thru wiring stud/post is okay and NOT shorted to case

Jim explained how to hot wire it so I don't need to now. The insulator is the one going into the side of the distributor. What you have to do it remove it and then take a piece of insulated wire and run into the hole it was in and hook it up to the points to take its place. If putting the wire in like that fixes the problem you either need a new insulator or you can silicone the wire in place and run it like that. I have one tractor tht has been set up that way for 20 plus years now

Disconnect the wire from the coil that is now connected to the ignition switch. Use a piece of insulated stranded wire of 14 gauge with an alligator clip on both ends about 4' long. Put the tractor in Neutral and lock brakes. Connect the jumper to the battery cable that is not grounded and the other end to the coil terminal that you took the wire off of. This "hot wires" the tractor, it will now be getting ignition voltage (assuming the battery is up and good).
If it runs now, the ignition wiring, or switch needs repair. Which insulator? we need more data. JimN
