I use 20w50 on a couple of old M's that have tired pumps.

As others have mentioned, you can use whatever you have as long as it is between 10 and 30 weight and or hydraulic fluid. Big thing is, don't use detergent oil. It has the nasty habit of aerating or forming bubbles or something when placed under high pressure. It gets worse as it heats up. Then you get spongy hydraulics that do not lift anything decent until they cool down.

We used 30W detergent oil in our H in the 50's with no problems -- this was heavy use. Modern oil may have more detergent in it. I currently have an M with an M&W live pump -- I use detergent in it, also.

Not very tight tolerances on the pumps built 60-70 years ago, so the same oil that was in the engine was recommended for the pump. I used whatever I had in my other tractors, because I did not want to cross contaminate the oil, when using hydraulic implements from other tractors.

Original specs. called for non-detergent motor oil. 30 weight for warm weather use, 20 weight for cold weather, and 10 weight for extreme cold. In all reality, that lift-all pump really doesn't much care what is in it. Hy-tran will work just fine if that's what you want to use, and I know of one H that spent most of it's working life with John Deere hydraulic oil in the lift-all pump because the other tractors on the farm were all John Deeres.
