I had a posted this message before but I had a few more ?'s. I recently purchased an H from a neighbor. It's being sitting in my shed for over a year. Finally took it out to run a 5' Bush Hog and it smoked blue the entire 4 hours of use. I had never seen it smoke prior to this and have seen this tractor run for years. The tractor ran fine and the oil level and pressure are good. I understand the best thing to do is an oil change and used the tractor hard for a while to reseat the rings. Is there anything I can put into the cylinders to help the problem move faster or a more efficient way of solving the problem?

Thanks for the insight. I am going to try the Sea Foam and tranny fluid tricks. I like to see what happens before I have to pull the trigger on a overhaul. I guess I am just looking for a band aid until next spring. Thanks again!!

One thing I have had good luck with to unfree stuck rings from sitting is Sea Foam. You could put 5 gallon of gas in the gas tank, add a whole can of Sea Foam to that, then take another can, put it in a squirt can, take off the intake tube, start tractor, let it warm up a little, 5-10 minutes to get heat in engine, run at about 1000 rpm or so, the start pumping the Sea Foam into the carb throat with the squirt can, and do it fast, put enough into the carb throat to flood and kill the engine. Let it sit for 3-4 hours or more, start, run engine, then go out and use it. If it is going to straighten out and run right without and overhaul, this should do it. What you describe is rings stuck in piston from sitting, and needs the carbon softened up so it can blow out, As Allan said, that thing is over 50-60 years old, and if it is original, it may be time for a rebuild. But, try the Sea Foam thing, I have had luck with that on small engine that have sat or have issues with carbon.

Tractor is sixty some years old and probably has never been touched. Doubt if there is any snake oil that is gonna cure your ills.

I'l be thinking about an overhaul.

Tranny fluid but where as Jam says just a little bit my self I like to fill the cylinders. Then let it sit a few days and pull the plugs and spin the engine over to clear the tranny fluid out. Change the oil because it will have ATF in it from doing that. Also some thing that can help is put a QT. of ATF into 5 Gal. of gas and run it

Auto trans fluid About three tablespoons in each, then put the plugs back in and let it sit for 2 days. Then pull the plugs and (with the ign off, and a dirty towel over the plug area) crank it to blow out residual ATF. Then put in the plugs, and start it. It will smoke from the ATF, then clean itself up. Optimistic,JimN
