SuperC - axle bearing question - will this work?

Hi, first post - great site! Would appreciate some advice from the pro's who have been there done that!

I'm fixing a Super C and one of the inner axle bearings needs replacement - one of the balls is shattered in pieces.

It is IH part number ST295. My closest Case dealer wants close to $80 for it, and they are a 110mile roundtrip.

I measured it and it seems to be 50x110x27 mm - IDxODxThickness.

On eBay some-one has 98 of these for sale at $10 each - search for Item number: 260135940232. I am thinking of buying one of these (heck I might as well buy 2) and cutting the rubber lips out.

Are all bearings the same? Or is there something else I should be aware of - are the IH ones made of a certain material, strength rating, etc?

Only planning on having those heavy axles off once! third party image

Thanks in advance! Keith.

Good info guys - thanks!
I'm going to get a "known-good quality" bearing from Fastenal as they are the closest to me. I went to www.fastenal.com and typed 6310 bearing into the search box.
Thanks again! Keith.

Your measurements are correct, ST295 crosses to a 6310 bearing (50 X 110 X 27mm). One of the many things I like about old Red iron is that so many of the bearings are relatively common. As the others have said, you can just remove the side shields if you want. For low rpm stuff like the Axle bearings, I leave them in, it prevents contamination and slows the leaks of the tranny grease.

That bearing may be made in China. The only other difference is that the original bearing may contain more balls than the one on Ebay. More balls was for greater load, would not make much difference now as this tractor will probably not see near as much hard labor as it once did :-)

You can take the bearing number to any good shop and get them cross it. I had to do that and the only bearing that matched the ID and OD was sealed. I just removed the thin sheet of tin so that it would get lubricated by the rearend grease. I ended up getting mine at a White-Freightliner truck dealer.
