Been away for a few days. Checked in and saw the earlier post about the lowest number super H. I have number 540J. I have a starter rod that runs to the button which is fastened to the starter. IH disc brakes. My real dilemna is the motor. I have a serial number which is pretty far off from the tractor"s, and no stamp above the oil filter saying which block it is. I guess with some others help, we"ve determined that it is the smaller engine, but still not 100% sure. Think it must have been a replacement though, not original.

Runs like a top, so I"m not terribly disappointed, but still a bit of a let down.

thanks for the info. The serial number on my super h is diffrint than the chasies too. I think they all are....someone on here had it figured out as i gave him the chasies number and he told me the engine number and only was a few numbers off. but if you have the rod that goes to the starter on the left side of the engine I don't think it is the c-152...I know on all my h's the block doesent have the c-152 stamp...I don't know when they started stamping the blocks with there displacment. nut i know the hundred series have all theire blocks stamped. Do you have a part number on your block???

Can you see a casting code on the block?

Check out my post on 7/30/07 under the topic of 'engine serial numbers'.

To recap, the numbers cast into the block above the oil filter housing read 264, or 265, or even 285...hard to tell.

Serial number is IBHM....-am told IBHM is an I-4 prefix, making it the 152 block.

Casting code is 9-9-x.

Part # is 6695-BE or 8E or maybe DE?

What I think is that it is a replacement engine of the I-4 variety, since there is yellow paint under the red. Also, under the yellow is army green, so not sure if perhaps it was military power unit of some sort.

I hope all the old paint to be gone soon!!!

9-9-X would make it a late 52 casting. I know that all SMTA's were sold as 1954's. The cast code on the torque housing of mine is 7-22-Y. Y is 1953. So if 1954 parts were being cast in July 1953 then 1953 parts (early super H's) were probably being cast in September 1952. It could be the correct block. I'm not 100% sure on this, (someone correct me please if I'm wrong) but didn't they stop making the industrial versons at some point? I've never heard of a Super I-4 or a Super O-4, but come to think of it, I've never seen a 53 I-4 or 53 O-4. Also, how about a 300 orchard, or a 300 grove or anything like that. There is a 460 grove, though. Sorry if I got a little off track there. Hope you know what I'm getting at.

My 57 350 diesel also has 56 casting codes on some parts. I know for a fact they are original to the tractor.
