Just came back from the local tractor show and man was it sad. Really just more of a flea market now then anything. I think its just the fuel prices thats doing it. It was a pretty big show (for us anyway) for a long time up until a few years ago. Used to be about 20 or so steam engines and about 300 tractors, plus oodles of stationaries and classic rigs and cars. Now its one steam tractor and maybe 100 tractors. One classic rig and a dozen cars.

Anyone else's show gone like this?

The place I go down here in AZ for a tractor show isn't even having a fall show this year. Only one in February - can't make that one as my kid is due to show up around that time. third party image

I don't know about other areas but there is a club in the center part of our state that I attend their show every August. It was a huge show this year. Had to have been at least 30% larger than prior years. I would bet that gas prices more than anything else are hurting the shows. I would bet most guys still have their tractors but are cutting costs on the travel.

That's the one! Kids take me there every year for my birthday. Getting a little heavy on the flea market stuff...too much junk and not enough tractor related stuff....but the tractors themselves must have set a record this year. Parked all the way out to the end of the field.

North Carolina's premier show used to be just south of Ashville and we have to drive 3 hours to get there. Last year we only stayed 2 hours (6 hrs driving RT) and the show was almost worthless. More of a flea market. You could by almost anything you wanted except decent tractor parts. The tractors were scatterd amongst the junk and we got tired of walking to see them. Never again.

I should add that the Cumming Ga. show on the 7th of NOv will be the best of the year. Hundreds of tractors including some from a nearby museum and they have about 25 resident steam tractors there that alternate running the saw mill. Best show Ive ever been to and on 1 1/2 hours from here.

Henry,
Gonna try and make that show myself! Youre right about Arden, but if you need a part, you can find it there.
