Don: That 540 to 1000 adaptor has very limited use. Very few tractors ever used a dual speed on a single shaft pto. David Brown and I suspect a few other European built tractors used this system. These were all two stage clutch systems with two speed gear box within the pto unit. Low was 540 and high was 1000, and one had to use the adaptor to match up with 1000 rpm specific implements.

The opposite to that shaft 1000 to 540 was more common across North America. Folks would use them on 1000 rpm shaft at roughly half throttle for powering light load implements on big tractors.

Sounds like an adapter that converts a 540 PTO shaft to connect to a 1000 PTO drive shaft.
