I have a '59 460 with a gas engine. The ball end of the shifter is worn down and the 1st and revers fork is also. So when trying to shift it locks up. The shifter ball on my parts 460 was also worn and was built up with braze. Now my question is is this a good temp fix? Are the fork and shifter available new? Is this a common problem. I think my big consern is that the braze will fall off into the gears. Thanks for your time. Calvin Rollins

Brass works OK, but is not as long lasting as Iron based weld, and if you can braze, it is likely you can weld it as well. A properly "wetted" surface with braze, is not going to flake off like bird poop, so that is not a worry (unless that is the quality of the braze. JimN
