I was looking at the tractors they have for auction in isanti mn ( look on the web) and they stated that there is a super B that has the serial number "501" now when i went to check the serial number all the super a's and c's had a 6 didget number. I don't recall ever seeing a super B before. Could this be the first B ever made? I don't know mabey guy faye would know. Also there is gonna be a HV there. I think im gonna go as im within 100 miles of the auction. If the "super b" in question has a authntic Serial number "501" I wonder what it would be worth?? Like i said before i dint know they made a super B. If the serial number is correct at "501" would that make it as 39 B? I know they grouped some letter series tractors serial numbers together can you tell me which ones? After i hear back from someone who knows i might have the auctioner re check the serial number and mabey take some pictures and e-mail it to me. I wonder what the HV will bring? I would be willing to go 5500 on the HV but i don't think that will be enough. Mabey it might rain or even snow (oct 20th in minnesota it could snow) and a guy could get a great deal. there is a link to the auction in a few post below this one. it is the second auction on the bottom. Take alook for your self.

I do have a copy of the one I-H built then destroyed. I think someone who worked at the LOUISVILLE plant new about it and built one as it was painted at that time with the white background decals. The engine has raised letters saying SAMPLE and was cast in FEB 47 long before the SA and C were assembled and has both rear center rear wheels cast different batt box and used B starter and gen lite control A and B type some bolts dont have the dot on the head. Not a dent anyplace on the sheetmetal.

That's nothin'. You wait 'til I sell my Super BV-TA Diesel. It's the one that came with a factory year 'round cab. Now that is a rare tractor!

Maybe I oughta put it on ebay?

The first B has #3675 Sept 5 1939 as the A went into production first and it came off line June 21 1939. They were built in the CHICAGO WORKS next tractor got next serial# You need GUY FAYS book on letter series tractors as all the facts are in the book. It is the only book i have seen to be correct as others have bad info and also poor pics of original factory fresh tractors.

thays right you gotta whatch it and use common sence. I went to look at some tractors there gonna offer for auction around here and there is a "h" that has a white nose and white on the bottom of the hood and has "super h" emblumes I looked at the serial on both the engine and chasies. The both were FBH so it is not a super H. the year was 44 according to the serial number. Most castngs hade the letter N. so it is a regular H. but ill bet you a dime the auctioneer will say its a super h even though i know it is not. some one is gonna buy it as is and there gonna find out they got a regular H.

Numbers are the same as A numbers. They did start with 501. No Super B's or BV's were made. Someone has been messing with this one I would guess. It could be the first B, but I think someone probably had the tag made. Send me an email and I will send you a pic of a BV. Then you can post it here. Snow or rain makes no difference around here. Lots of folks show up at sales regardless of weather.

"probably had the tag made"

I hear ya and that thought kinda disgusts me, and reinforces my objection to how easy it is to get a new plate made with any number you want on it.

I know it could never be enforced, but I've always thought there ought to be somebody looking after such things the same way brand inspectors out west have to sign off on livestock sales.

We don't even have brand inspectors here. I too think some kind of proof should be required to get a new serial tag. Someone posted while back about a SHTA with that on the tag.

No idea on the H, but there never was a "Super" B. If it is in fact #501, it will have some extra value, which should be weighed against whatever cobbling might have been done on it that might lead an auctioneer to call it a Super.

Bear in mind that As and Bs shared the whole line of serial numbers and, with absolutely nothing to back me up, I'll bet two plugged nickels that #501 was an A.

Proceed with all the usual caution in approaching tractors at auction is about all I could advise.
