I have been struggling to put together a web site and wonder if we have any "resident" experts on the subject?

My biggest problem seems to be using the web building software I downloaded (NuVu). Is there something easier? It seems very cumbersome. Is there a system I can use that has a template to start with?

I know a few of you guys have sites. I just need something to post family photos, tractor restoration projects etc on.

Thanks- Jay in MN

I agree with Evan... Microsoft Word should work nicely for you especially if website design is not your forte.

I got a wysiwyg editor called Web.Designer 2 as a freebie bundled with an HP Deskjet. It wrote straight forward html and you can view and fix the html code if it gets out of whack. I used it, liked it I wanted enhanced version. It was bought out by Corel and bundled in Corel Draw 7,8,9. Available on Ebay for less than 50 dollars.

Web Easy another cheap editor sells for 2 to 15 dollars on Ebay does a pretty good job but not too fancy.

Hi Allen,

No I haven't tried or looked into that yet. Can I download it from Microsoft?

Jay

I used NetObjects Fusion 7 for this site. I really need to tweak it. I'm the bass-trombone player...

If you wanted to spend the money you could get the latest microsoft outlook which has the capability to do the programming for you. You actually dont need any program other than the notepad on your computer if you want to code it by hand. The following link is a site where I learned how to do a basic website (i just did it all in notepad).

www.htmlcodetutorial.com

html is the same code that allows other users to post multiple pictures and the way I created the hyperlink in the discussion forum.

Not to worry,

Portions of Microsoft Office will let you write in HTML, trouble is, it is kinda basic and doesn't follow the rules too darned well. :>)

Jay,

I have always found those "virtual" editors to be a royal PITA too. Very, very clumsy, awkward and just not very user friendly.

Have you tried Microsoft's "Front Page" software?

I build my sites here on my own computer and upload the whole she-bang loaded and complete via an FPT client.

You can also use Microsoft Word. Compose it like any other Word document, and then you can export it as html.

You can also take the minimalist approach...edit the html yourself in a text editor like notepad. Most html generated by a tool like Word or Front Page will have "extraneous" html in it making it nigh impossible to understand looking at the source. However, by mastering a handful of basic html tags, you can do a lot. As an example of a web site with 100+ pages of content which are almost entirely hand edited, see the attached link. Feel free to use view page source in your browser.
