Anybody had problems with replacement coils and/or points and condensors on the j4 mags? I have one that we replaced all this on, and has good spark at first/ slowly goes away as it turns more. Have tried many things. Actually changed condensor and points several times now. Any ideas?

I don't know a lot about magnetos, but I'm wondering if maybe the magnet is getting weak? I don't have the link to the website that explains all that, but there is a way to re-charge the magnet.

I have access to a charger, and thought about that too. The magnets seem to have good pull. It seems like the more we fool with it, the weaker the spark gets. When we got the tractor, somebody had put an outside mounted coil on it, and we were putting it back to original.

Are the bearings good, so the rotor (magnet) is NOT contacting the polepieces?

Is that area free of metal filings or rust, causing contact between the magnetic rotor and the polepieces?

Is the impulse working reliably?

If the above is OK, you have bad points, condensor, or coil.

If it has good spark initially, the strength of the magnets is NOT an issue.
