Anyone out there have a lot of experience w/ the FarmAll Super A made in 1947? We are getting this tractor this weekend and want to know as much about it as possible. We are newbies to the tractor world and appreciate ANY info you can give us about taking care of it, implements, etc. My Dad used to work in the factory where it was built. Even though he has had it umpteen years he's not able to tell me much about it. Thanks
Sandi

Heintz57: What can I say that you haven't already been told, except to tell you I'm the most adamant promoter of offset Farmalls here on this forum.

These are just a great little tractor for yard work around a small property. They run forever and a day, and they don't damage the bank balance or pocket book very badly at the parts counter. I once predicted here on YT, there would be an operating Farmall Super A on earth after mankind is gone. With that a guy from Saginaw MI jumped in and declared we best have NASA take a few of them to other possible planets, man may inhabit.

You will probably find more knowledgable folks here at YT for offsets, than just about any tractor. The H probably the only chalanger on volume of questions asked. Never could figure how those H guys found so many questions. It's hydraulics are much simpler than SA and the H not being offset is the same on both sides. LOL

Thanks Hugh, and to all that have added info in. I didn't realize I would find a group that was so helpful especially with me being ignorant of tractors and such. I appreciate all your patience in explaining even the basics. I'm getting email photos with descriptions from various folks and that's helping a lot too. My Dad says it's a unique little machine and sounds like he's right. I'm getting so anxious to have it here now that I know a little more. If ya don't hear from me much after Sunday, it's only because I'm out playing around w/ it. :) Thanks to all. Sandi

best advise is to pick up an owners manual and the i and t repair shop manual. they sell them on this site, click on tractor manuals in the upper left hand corner. the pair will run a little under 50 dollars. a real good source of information. at the very least, get the owners manual and read it cover to cover before operating the tractor. altho the super a is a small tractor by todays standards, it still is quite powerful and you can get in to trouble real fast if you are not familiar with it.

Super As are sweet.
They have hydraulics, they are powerful and economical. They have many attachments that are mounted from planters to plows and cultivators. They have a bit less than 18 honest horsepower (believe me they are twice the motive force and grunt than a 20 HP garden tractor, and 6 times the pulling power. Not a toy. The right wheel is cast Iron to weight the right side equally to the left (steel wheel). they are not particularly tippy, but all tractors are not go-carts, and deserve respect. Check the oil and rear end lube for color and change if needed. Rear end oil often gets water in it from condensation and turns puke yellow/grey moose consistency. THey are (originally) 6volt positive ground with a generator and voltage regulator. In my book they are great. Keep asking this forum when you need more answers, and always let us know if we helped. You have a great tractor--I know because I bought a 1948 back in 1966 and use it nearly every day for some chore or another.

The I & T Manual you want is #IH-8.

It"s a Shop Service manual for a number of tractors including your SA. It contains specifications, service data and step by step instructions for repairs, service and maintenance.

I just ordered an owners manual for $30. The guy said it'll tell me how to operate, simple servicing, trouble shooting, etc. I thought I'd wait on the I/T manual, it runs $27. He said the parts manual runs >$110 and that it'll list the implements that are avail for the super a. Guess that'll have to wait. Sandi

caseih.com then parts and service, then start searching for parts here, then super A. Complete layout of your tractor. JimN
