Hi All , I was out doing some cleanup raking due to strong wind while baling hay Saturday and the tranny went chunk , chunk and it started to buck a little then not go . I limped it back to the house but it doesn't sound good . 5th gear works the best being direct through and all the gears still work just not very well . I think I may have broke some teeth or dropped a bearing . I won't know for a couple months because this is the busiest time of year for us . And it's not work related busy it's buckskinning and family reunions and so forth . With the M&W nine speed this isn't going to be a easy fix I can tell but at least it uses all original style bearings according to the M&W manual . It's been acting up since I've owned it but I've only used it about three times this year to move the hay rack into position to unload and then to do this cleanup work since the other tractor was on the baler . It always growled but worked good and shifted well . OH well , it goes on the list of to-do's . Not a high priorty thing but I'll get to it . I'll need it for plow days next spring . Thanks for listening ! Take care ...Randy

Randy, Where in Iowa do you live. If your 9 speed is cable operated as the first ones were. I'm guessing it is the front gear on the lower shaft. I have seen them fail due to a binding cable that doesn't shift the gear completly in. This could be the direct side or the over drive. I would try running the pto with the trans in nuetral, 9 speed in direct and see if you have noises. I'm about 20 miles NW of Des Moines,I think I have a couple M regular transmissions.PS.When you try to remove the front top shaft gears you will think they won't fit through the hole but in just the right position they will.

Sorry to hear that. If it will help , when I got my H rear and tranny rebuilt, it was like getting on a new tractor! Smooth going now! You will see what I mean when you get your M done.
