Bearing is a light press fit on the output shaft and just fits inside the input shaft. I knocked it off with a hammer and punch and used the bolt and cap to pull it back on the shaft. As far as I can tell, the rollers will not fall out unless the bearing is damaged so I see no reason for a rubber band.

Do you have it completely apart yet?

Are you replacing the input shaft ball bearings and seals also? Since you have it apart as far as you do, I'd do that also. For myself, in addition to the above, I replaced the countershaft seal and belly pump seal and the 4th/5th slider. All the seals were leaking, but no more. Pretty easy job actually.

The rubberband is used to hold the rollers to the inside race so that none hang down to catch when the input shaft is installed. Nine time out of ten it is not necessary but by using it you may avoid damaging the new bearing.

Put a rubberband around the rollers to hold them tight on the inside race.
