I am going to look at an 1947 H this week. The owner stated that it ran just fine before he parked it for a few weeks as he went on vacation. HE said as he tried to start it after his vacation that it would not even turn over. He thought that it might be the battery at first then realized that the battery was o.k. He then tried to turn it over by hand and said that he could barely get it to move. After talking to his neighbers he said that he was told that some water probably got down into the engine and corroded the cylinders. After removing the spark plugs it still would not turn over upon hand cranking. The owner upon suggestion poured about a shot glass of transmission fluid into each cylinder in hopes to free up the cylinders. Currently as of this writing this is where were at.Does this sound very possible that the cylinders could corrode that quickly. Or is there somewhere else to possibly suspect. Again the owner said it ran fine and did not blow any oil out of the exhaust prior to the three weeks it was parked.

It's possible the starter locked up.

However, a number of years ago when I was in the boat repair business, it was a rule of thumb that when an engine was sunk in fresh water, you had 24 hours to get it torn down, cleaned out, reassembled, and running again. Running to get any remaining water cleared out and lubrication wherever it needed to be.

If an engine was sunk in salt water, the time frame narrowed to 6 hours.

My money is on the starter being stuck. If not check for a stuck valve. It will create enough resistance that the motor will not want to move.

The pistons may be stuck from rust in the sleeves
I would pour more ATF into the cylinders and let it soak. If none of the suggestions on here free it up you may need to pull the head and oil pan and loosen all the bearing caps. Then remove one of the rod caps and use a piece of 2X2 oak and a hammer to tap on the rod to drive it out. Hal

First thing to do is pull the starter off it may be locked up in the ring gear. And yes it doesn't take long for one to lock up from water in the cylinders and if it has water in them unless its blown out the tranny fluid will not help because it will float on the water. Also if it will not turn over with the starter there is little hope it will by hand since the starter puts out 10 times more torque then you can put out by hand

Try a new push button start switch. It solved my start problem. Contacts were severely corroded.
Starter motor may be demanding too much current.

Good luck.
