Wanted to give you an update on the head I posted about that had a couple of cracks in it and the no compression in the one cylinder. Had the head sent away to get the 2 cracks fixed, new valve seats, new guides, new valves installed. Seemed a bit expensive though was just under $1,000.00 for everything done to the head. Did all the tearing the head off and back on the tractor ourselfs. Got it running on Friday night, compression at 140 psi in each cylinder. Went to the antique pulls Sat. to try it out. Tractor pulled well, got 3'rd in 6500lb class, beat by a souped up Minnie and Oliver, they both pulled 100 feet further then anybody else in 2 classes they ran. Got a 6'th in the 7500lb class, only weighed 6800 pounds though didn't want to push the engine too hard after just getting the head together. Will tourque the head studs and set the rockers again this week since the tractor has been heated up and worked fairly hard. Was wondering should I put new rockers on it also? The ones on it are a bit rounded in the center from 50 plus years of use. Are they suppose to be flat or rounded a bit. If needed to be flat could I just grind them flat again? Or should I just leave well enough alone? They do set up at 17 like they are suppose to and has good compression. Thanks for everybody's help on getting the tractor running again. Couldn't have done it without all the information from everyone. Think might be close to time to put a clutch in the SC, could be more questions in the fall. Thanks again Terry

Rocker tips are supposed to be contoured to the motion of the rocker on the tip of the valve. If they have cups or worn spots then they need to be surfaced on a special machine that keeps the contour. Good luck, JimN
