I started with the raditor on my '44 H today after I removed the fuel tank. I have a couple of questions before I move on.

1) How do you remove the steering shaft that goes through the radiator? (front pic)

2) I was told to unblot the two bolts holding on the fan shield and pull the fan shield back and away. So I did, but it doesn't budge. (rear pic)

Mike, That H of yours sure looks nice. I can't believe how good the paint looks. I had to put a new alternator on my '52 H yesterday, which did fix the problem I wrote about last week, and then I hogged about 4 acres. This was the first real use of my tractor and it felt great to finally work her after a year of refurbishing. I did not want to get off when I was finished.

Thanks. It's got a long way to go. But the first step is to get him running. The radiator is getting pulled because the lower right side thread nut is gone. We're going to open up the side, tack a new nut to the back of the hole, then close it. Also we have to straighten out the pour spout on the top. It's bent forward a bit.

There should be 4 bolts holding the fan shroud on.

After removing the large nut on the front, you will have to turn the front steering shaft to get the worm gear to clear the beveled gear at the top of the upper bolster. After the worm has cleared it's just a matter of pulling the shaft out through the radiator and the upper bolster.

actually, you do not pull it straight out, you must twist the worm gear til it spins out the front, THEN pull it out after you have already undone the UV joint midshaft.

Is there going to be a lot of oil pouring out of there? Any way to drain it prior to removing that big nut?

no, no not alot of oil will come out of there, just a little will dribble out of there, though I usually put a towel below it to catch the dripping... Maybe say half a cup of oil will come out.
