Hi Georgeky,
What was wrong with the Massey that you couldnt keep it going?
Was it trouble spot's, in the engine, or was it hydralic's, or something else?
Ive heard all sort's of thing's about Massey's That they are nothing but a glitch waiting to happen?
I guess It depend's on who's using it, and what he's doing with it,( Or not doing with it?)
And then,,, Ive all sort's of good thing's about them too, I mean the one's in the 70's before they got a bad rap from part's houses, and dealer's that wernt holding their end of the deal up on repair's, or so I heard a bunch of time's?
I dont know what to believe, I know If you dont have A/C in those 2000 serie's cab's?
Youll bake like a chicken in there,
With all the glass, it seem's like it would be unbearable in ther without air,
I could get another IH and be done with it, and maybe Id be safe, than sorry with a Massey, Maybe Ill get a 1066, and then redo it, and show some JD guy's out there what a real tractor is,
I know one thing about Massey's,
the darn dealer's are so far away, that it's kinda stupid to even think about getting one unless your within 20 miles of one, nd even that is too far away,
So,,,, I guess,,, it's out with Massey,
I saw alot of them reposing in used lot's, and I was thinking why are they just sitting there, and not moving too much?
is it the cost of part's, or reliability,
because Ive got 2 massey book's called The Massey Legacy,
and I was thinking that thye were good tractor's and reliable too, but,,, all I hear is downtrodding on them especially the V8's,
and all this stuff of how thier a pandoras box, and the cost of part's and service would make even a movie star laugh,
Sheesh,,, I wanted one real bad ,, But now i dont think I wanna get involved in one I still have an Itching for one though,
I really dont think they would be that bad if you could find a good one that was babied all it's life,
And the 24 spd,
I think alot of guy's out there misunderstood how to drive it with the V8's torque, and using the right gear,so the tires dont slip as ive heard they do sometime's,
and also,,, I think If you changed the oil more often in the tranny, the clutch pack's would last longer,
also ,,, If you used GOOD QUALITY OIL IN THERE WHAT WAS SPECIFIED BY MASSEY IN THE 1ST PLACE,AND CHANGED IT AT THE RIGHT INTERVAL'S/
I dont think there would be much problem's,
I drove a 2745 in red cloud ne last yr and I really liked it alot, super power smooth, and realy fun to drive even on the road's around there it wanted to really get up, and go,
I like the look's, and the general design of them and inside while I was saying that if you didnt have a/c? It really wasnt that bad as this one had a good blower in the cab,
It was fun going thru the gear's and the powershift was really smooth,maybe a little jump, from the torque of that V8, but not too awful much after you got used to it,
That sound of that Perkin's V8 was so good, that Only Mozart could have done better,
Not saying that their good, or bad, or anything in between, But it's just me, That I like them, and like the room in the cab, too,
I wish I could find some people that liked the 2000 Massey's like I do and the V8's in paticular,
Ive seen a few IH 1468 V8's around too,
Their pretty cool to, But thier not as plentiful as the Massey's, I dont think?
Id even watch that footage on you tube in Finland where the guy is disking with an 1150 Massey, Just to listen to the sound of that 510 Perkin's roaring around in the field is mechanical symphony.
Ahhh,,, Sweet Music to plow by!
I also Like the sound of that Farmall 1466 turbo,
Deep, and Raspy too with smoothness built in,
Maybe Im crazy,,, But,,, Even if I was in the field with that 1466, and going around disking?
Id still be thinking of that Perkin's V8 in the Massey,
