i happen to know where an old man has one parked (or should say HAD as i havn't been out there in probably 10 years) anyway...from what i remember the tin is fairly straight, needs tires all the way around and i'm sure the engine will need rebuilt....i'm thinking of going out there this weekend, what should i offer him?

I don't know about the ID-9 for sure (there were many optional sizes!), but my W-9 came with 14-34 which cross to something like a 16.9x34 now, which is easy to find - but pricey like all tires these days.

If it turns over and has the exhaust and intake covered - maybe $500... $1000 if all the rims and tires are good.

If it is stuck - maybe $300, those diesel engines will ring up $10,000 pretty quick to rebuild!

I'd start with 'Free' to remove it from his property, and go up from there. If there is some sort of family value to that tractor you will have a tough fight. But I would say no more than $400.

Unfortunately if you don't know that it runs, scrap iron price...parts for a WD9 or ID9 engine will not be cheap, or easy to find. Anything unique to the I9's (hand clutch, accelerator pedal, drawbar) will be almost impossible to find.

If I remember right, those 9s used a rather odd sized rear tire which can probably be found, but will be pricey.

Yes, that is what I was thinking but couldn't remember the size. How common are 32 inch tires?

I have no idea on the availability. One of my tires holds air. The other is toast. I won't be replacing it as the I-9 is a parts source for my 650.
