I recently purchased a Cub that came with several implements. One of them is an old one row Cole planter. I want to use this planter for planting corn. I don't know if I have the correct plates for that or anything about the operation of the planter and how it attaches to the tractor. I assume it works with the cultivator lift some how. I need a source for plates and also a manual. There is no model info on the planter. It just says Cole Mfg, Charlotte, NC. The planter has a single seed box with two compartments. Each side has a planter plate. I'm linking to picture. Hope it works.

I checked the plates. Left hand one says 8 hole corn. Right one says 8 hole pea. turned the wheel and measured space between drops and both sides would make a seed drop about evry 11 inches, not allowing for any slip. There is also a table on the back of the plate, I assume for different gears or sprokets, but I don't know what sproket or gear, or what it means. The left one is

Gear 8 10 12 14
Dist 18 14 12 10

Right one

Spr 7 9 10 12
Dist 9 11 13 15

One more thing, I have found that the rear wheel needs to b lower then the front to work rite, I am not sure how it would hook up to a cub. By accident I found this out cuzz I was 2 lazy to lower the front of my hitch from the last time I cultivated corn. With the front down the planter wheel would not roll sometimes, like it is in the pix on my 100 it works perfect.

I sent an E mail to Covington. Wonder if they will answer. The only showed manuals for current models on their website. I have a 140 tractor with Fast Hitch, so I may rig the planter to use with the fast hitch. From the looks of the Cub hitch for the planter it looks like you need to reverse the drawbar and then attach a lift arm to the rear cultivator rockshaft to lift it. There is along tongue on the front of my planter that looks like it would reach the drawbar when it's reversed as you do when attaching a plow.

I figured that upright metal piece with the "T" thing on it was an add on to the hitch. Mine has exactly the same thing. Thanks for the photos!
