I have a 986 International with what I think is a DT436. The numbers came off the intake manifold. Is this possible.

What I was told is a 986 didn't come with a turbo but this tractor has one. I just bought this tractor and never had a IH before had some old Farmall's but not a IH. I had the injector pump overhaled (it was bad when I got it) the person asked if this tractor had a turbo when I told him yes he said that the pump needed to be turned up 20%. If so what is the HP on the tractor.

Yes sir, the 966 had a D414, but this post is about a 986, which was sent from the factory with a D436. I had one of the first 986s in my part of the world.

It is possible, but it didn't come out of the factory like that. Factory would have been a D436. If it has a DT it, or part of it as others have illuded to is a transplant.

If it has a turbo the engine may have been out of a 1466 tractor. Hal

I've never owned one. Did they all come with the "DT" designation?

Turboed tractor engines should have DTT as model number.

That manifold may have been changed or like Chrysler products back in the 50's when they ran out of parts near the end of the year you needed the model number and serial of the distributor since it could be Plymouth, DeSoto or Dodge.
