When i put on my new head gasket,do I need to put on anything else, like some kind of "goop".I figured the gasket is a gasket and doesn"t need any help.Just like water pumps don"t need any rvt but everyone globs it on just because...

Makr sure you retorque the head after it has warmed up. Bought a C last year that was overhauled and had a coolant leak when warm. Just needed to be retorqued.

Look closely at the gasket. The last few I've put on have had "sealer and retorque required" stamped right on them. I use a spray copper coat product that is made for headgaskets.

No HEAVY goops!

You'll find different opinions. Some folks say put -em on dry. Others say use a spary-on copper sealant or just plain spray on copper paint, and putthe gasket on after it's set until just barely tacky.

Your choice. The two important things are not to use anything heavy or thick like a regular brush-in-bottle Permatex gasket sealer, and to retorque the head after you've had the whole engine running up to temp for a little while. Latter is a pain as you have to lift the rocker to do it, meaning running down your valve clearances a second time, but it needs to be done.
