I just bought a bunch of straight 90 weight to put in the rear end of my M. NAPA sells it, its a GL-1 mineral oil, part number 65205 for a 5 gallon pail, 65201 for 1 gallon.

Don't use motor oil, especially used motor oil! Motor oil will not provide the right kind of lubrication, and will probably leak out most of the seals...

I prefer 85w-140 in my older Farmalls.

Can motor oil be used instead of gear oil? I have many gallons of used motor oil saved over the years.

Long story short, I have to replace all the gear oil.

I don't know if I would take a chance on it or not. If it is non detergent oil it will work very well in the hydraulic system.

I would not do it. If nothing else, I would think you would get a lot of grinding into gear with a light oil. I tried using Hy-Tran-ish oil in my C, unless it was about zero out it had a lot of grinding.
