Serial Number?

This may be a dumb question, but I don't know the answer. I recently bought my third tractor, a 240 Utility, and the identification/serial number plate is missing. However, I can clearly read the engine identification number on the block. Is there any way to find out the serial number, assuming the engine is original?

Paul: The engine serial will not tell you a lot about a 240. Since the Farmalls 100, 200, 130, 230, 140 and 240 each had their own sequence of tractor serial numbers, yet the C-123 engine used in them all shared a common sequence of serial numbers. A 240 engine serial number is probably about 80,000 higher than tractor serial number.

The closest you can come is casting date codes, day and month by number and year by letter, about 3/8" high digets with what looks like a round head, blade screw cast between each of day, month and year. A is 1955, B is 56, etc. The 240 tractor serial plate should be on left side of clutch housing.
