At a recent show, I saw an F20, that had been converted to electric start, by adding a ring gear to the belt pulley, and mounting a starter on a plate bolted to the frame. Looked simple enough, and the owner says it works good. Has anybody else tried it?

I saw an F-12 at RPRU last year that had a car flywheel on the pto shaft

with a starter. He had it all contained in a nice clean looking box that bolted to the rearend housing.

On the f-12,14,20 you can put a flywheel off a auto tranny motor on the driveshaft in front of the tranny and mount a starter there.

Loren,
I remember an article somewhere (Red Power?)in which a fellow did that with a 10-20 or 22-36 or W-30. It was done to perfection. The guy was skilled and had skilled friends if I remember right.

I started my 10-20 off the belt pulleys once using an Olds 3hp hit and miss engine!

I saw a magazine article a while back on electric start system using the belt pulley. Can't recall where it was however. Also it's possible to do the same thing using the PTO.
