Is the oil for the T/A and rearend the same reservoir or are they seperate. If they are seperate where do you drain the T/A? Also how much fluid does each one take?

Thanks

There is some erroneous info below.

The rear frame which includes the TA, IPTO or PTO, transmission, and differential are all connected and use the same oil which is generically called "tractor fluid".

There are three plugs along the lower centerline of the rear frame. Pull all three to get all the oil out.

The IPTO at the rear of the tractor has its own oil and plug. The plug is squeezed between the hydraulic fast hitch cylinder and the IPTO unit.

The T/A chamber is separate from the transmission. My 450 doesn't have a T/A but there was some oil in the bottom of the T/A chamber when I tore it open during restoration. There were two standpipes about 2" long that maintained an oil level on each side of the PTO shaft passageway but I don't think that would apply to a tractor with a T/A. Yours may have actual drain plugs positioned side by side on the bottom of the tractor. One is a 1/4" pipe plug and the other is 3/8" pipe plug. These would be in line with the 3/8" T/A oil level plug on the left side of the case about in line with the clutch pedal pushrod. My standpipes were only accessible by removing the top cover on the clutch housing behind the clutch bell. It looks like it would hold about 2 gallons.

As far as the transmission, I've got mine nearly torn down to the transmission case casting, but I understand it holds about 15 gallons of oil. Some of this oil moves all the way forward in a separate passageway to the PTO reduction gears right behind the clutch.

I've heavily documented my restoration with pictures so if you send me an email, I can send you some. Hope I've answered more questions than I've created. Bob (MartyK)
