Can someone with a battery box for an H tell me the dimensions of the 6v battery I need to get? My wife's battery died on her car today, so I'm going to get a replacement at the parts store on base, and while I'm there I figured I'd check to see how much a 6v was.
Her's is $75. Ouch.

Mike,

The H uses a Group 1, M uses Group 2 & Super M uses Group 3. I don't know if there are still supplying Group 3 or not. Tractor Supply used to stock Groups 1,2 & 3, but I believe they dropped the Group 3. I think they specify Group 2 for the Group 3 applications. This may be because the newer Group 2 batteries meet the minmum CCA rating of the old Group 3.
Do a GOOGLE search on "battery group size chart". K-Mo

Hi Mike
I have found it is hard to beat Wal Mart for batteries. They may not have a 6 volt though.

Mike: Just ask for a Group 1 (one) 6v battery. That is what fits the battery box of the early farmalls. mike durhan

Hey Mike, looks like your only choice is a group I battery anyway that would come close to those dimensions.

That might work. I was looking for the dimensions of the battery itself, but I can take those dimensions and see what they can get that would fit inside.
Thanks Randy!

Hi Mike. The one on my M is 11 and 3/4 by 7 and 1/2 inside dimensions.

I think so, but am not sure as My H doesn't have one either.

Are the M and H battery boxes the same size? I ask because eventually I will get a battery box for this H, and want my new battery to fit the first time.

Mike, the H and M battery boxes may be the same dimensions on the inside, but the two are not interchangeable, and they have different outward appearances.

Our local Wal-mart has a 6 volt battery for $28.95 plus a core. It fits an H battery box. Does the base need a core? if so mosey on over to the motor pool and look for a buddy. Core charge here is up to $9

My Wal Mart doesn't carry 6v at all. The base auto shop wants $80 for one!!! third party imagethird party imagethird party image

I need to find a cheaper source!
