I purchased a well used IH industrial 454 tractor from a local municipality, hydrostatic trans, (also sold as the 2500A?) and am using it on our small farm, mostly for haying, light field work.
Starting was a problem, remedied by an electronic ignition system replacing the old worn out distributer innards.
My problem now is: Turning off the key means listenenig for 45 to 60 seconds, (more on a hot day) of the poor old girl trying to shut down. It CAN'T be good for her?!?
Is there a fix to get her to stop running after a couple hours work?

A slower Idle speed will help as will letting it idle for a bit, if the idle can be set low enough that it at or near 450rpm, it will shut off more readily. JimN

I turn off the gas under the tank and let them stall from lack of gas before turning the key off.

Slow the idle down and/or close the throttle when shutting down.
