Hello,
I was given the name of a gentleman by the name of Guy Fay. I understand that he has an extensive understanding of Farmall tractors.
I was hoping to contact him with regard to my father's B.
I believe he also may work with or at the University of Wisconsin.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
thank you.

Hello Sir,
I hope I am sending this reply out correctly, I've never used one of these discussion board things, so I'm not at all certain how they work. [If this ends up in the wrong place, I would request any help from anyone as to what I am supposed to do.]
Sir, wow, the replies were very fast and extensive [and some rather entertaining]. As I mentioned in an email -which was returned undeliverable- -now I understand why-.. I was given your name by a gentleman in Panora, IA. I was working on a short film shoot there and we were working on his farm for one location. He had several tractors, one of which was a Farmall H. Hearing my interest, he shared with me some stickers, toys, etc., plus a very nice document which he stated he had received from yourself. In that document form you listed a great deal of information about his specific tractor, [date made, location, etc.]. My father has a Farmall B. I mentioned that I would like to get my father such a document for his birthday this year. He will be 83. He gave me an obviously old email address and told me that I should contact you, that you were very helpful and could likely create the same kind of document for me. He mentioned that I would need a number, [serial? manufacture?] from my Dad's B. I don't even know where to look on Dad's tractor for that number though I used to help work with it and help fix it for years. My life has taken a different course. I would be very, very appreciative if you could help me with this - I want to give my father something I know he'd enjoy, and at 83 it is getting harder and harder to find things the folks want or need.
His birthday is this September 2nd. I hope that gives us some time. I will pay you what I can for your efforts, since it seems that you no longer have the resources available to you that you likely had some years ago. Also, I understand from this 'board' that you authored a book. I think that might be a very cool addition to my gift idea; can you tell me if it is still available?
My Dad always told me that his B was built about 46 or 48? Any help would be so much appreciated. Also, I don't mind using this form, but if it would be better to send some information to an email or ISP/FTP site, please let me know and I will get that information to you.
Again, my many thanks.

Do the guy a favor and buy his books, namely the Farmall Letter Series Originality Guide and the IH Tractors Data Book.

If you don"t have the means to purchase them, I understand and many people here have those books and can look up the information for you. Fire away!

I'm here, ask away. Let everybody get in on the answers. Yesm I worked for the WHS, but its been five years since I got laid off.

And Mike, I think I got you beat in the weight department, even if I have lost 30 pounds since the last time you saw me.

Guy,
I just started tearing into "The Originality Guide for Letter Series Farmalls" and I wanted to say that YOU ROCK! There is a ton of info in that book. I like the part where you said that it is impossible to screw up your restoration bc it is yours ;) That may be paraphrasing a bit too much...
PS - I am going to write a post after this on MD battery boxes as I have not seen this covered in the book.

Speaking for myself only, I think Guy will get a chuckle out of someone refering to him as a gentleman! 'Bout like someone calling me Slim!

Well now, stranger, some folks around here say they know this here Guy Fay, and some say they never heard of 'em. Still others say he's living down around Moline, Illinois under the assumed name of John D. Green.
Me - I don't say. But I reckon if there is such a fellow, he'll be in touch - if he's a mind to.

Just ask your questions, Guy is on this board occasionally, if he sees your question he will answer. Others will know the answer also -- many of these answers are based on Guy's knowledge, mostly history of the tractors, as opposed to mechanical info. Guy worked for the Wisconsin Historical Society, not U of WI. He did extensive research and organization of the IH info there, thus his knowledge.
