I have a IH 1486. Ive noticed that whenever I change the oil, the oil immediately turns black. I know how to open a drain plug and there isnt anything old left, I always add the right amount of oil and never go above the full mark. Why is this? I have no idea when the ol was changed last as i just got her.

You can put in 2 cans of sea foam in the oil 1 hr. before an oil change and that will clean it up inside. let it drain really well. I did it on my 756 diesel and the oil stays clean for awhile.

Yeah,

Now, start the tractor and check it in about 10 minutes. :>)

There is at least a half gallon of oil left in the engine when it stops running out the oil pan drain hole. You can get about another quart out of it if you remove the oil cooler oil drain plug but there will still be oil in the oil pump and galleys. If it still has the original style valve lifters, each one of them will be full of oil.

If its a diesel, it might get dirty fast.

Ted,

I take it this is your first diesel? Totally normal.

Diesels turn the oil blask in a hurry. If it does it in an hour, it probably had poor care for the last few seasons. I would change it, and the filters again after 20 hrs just to be sure of removing contaminants. JimN

The engine might be very dirty inside. Does it have good oil pressure? When you change the oil, do you make sure the engine is thorghly warm before draining the oil?
