I just bought an A only to find out it has a cracked uppercasting. Is this a weak point on these? Am I on borrowed time or may I run this another 67 years? If you have a part let me know.

Thanks,

Spokerman

Just buy a good top half and rebuild the bottom. Then take care of the tractor and it will last forever. The tractor is not a bulldozer nor a race car to do wheeleys. Thats why yours is broke too many hot shots driving didnt care about using common sense of a machine. You can break anything if you try.I have two of them that are not broken and have sold some that were not but have had some that were abused and its sad to see how improper use could tear up a nice piece of machinery.

Tired Farmer: I suppose you could call it a weak point, however most of them have been broken by running into something solid or careless towing with chain hooked to front axle, and not keeping it tight. Usually folks break the engine block rather than the steering box.

There are lots of those casting around. I wouldn't put a whole lot into welding without checking price of a replacement.

Good afternoon Tired. If you want to make sure you get another 60+ years take and get the crack welded.. Any good weld shop or neighbor with expirience welding Cast steel should be able to reenforce your steering casting for not too much money , and probably do it right on the tractor if it is at all accessible.... Good luck.. Tallperson
