0-12 clutch and magneto question

I just got an 0-12 and the clutch is stuck. Can you access the clutch under the steering box, and is there a coupling like a bulldozer that can be removed or do you have to split the tractor? My second question is, no matter where I place the mag advance/retard lever it seems like it is impulsing at the same place. The piece on the mag is turning but the mag never goes off like it should. I marked the crankshaft and the pulley to see which was advance/retard and it keeps impusing at the same place -- any ideas on what is wrong? The part that rotates on the mag is "indexed" with the two little teeth - I know it is just not turning on the body of the mag. After I get it working which way is advanced? If I take the mag off I see there are 4 bolts that hold the mag on and two in the coupling -- does the couping have to be marked or can it only go on two ways?

Thanks in advance
Greg

Greg,The mag must be set to the tractor.Find TDC mark on the flywheel and center it with the sight hole.Take the mag. cap off and make sure the mag is pointing to # 1 on the cap. Then unbolt the mag coupler and rotate the mag.untill the points just starts to open, then tighten every thing .

I have an O-12 that I restored 8 years ago. To get at the clutch either you remove the engine from the tractor or you split the tractor, either is a lot of work. In my case as the engine had to come out for rebuilding that is what I did. The clutch had been installed upside down by someone earlier on so had not been lubricated since its installation and the bushing on the shaft and its housing had been belled out so new bushings etc had to made to put it back in order.
As for the magneto, is the impulse working?

The mag is going to click in the same palce no matter where you have the lever until its running. I dont understand what you mean by its just not turning on the body.On the coupling, there should be a round peice between the "coupler" and mag.DOnt take out those 2 bolts until you can confirm its not in ime.

You need to note where the rotor is pointing and make a sketch, then as long as you don't move the engine once the mag is off, you just turn the rotor to the position noted in your sketch. Then your mag will be time again. Hal
