At a consignment auction of Saturday there was a 1086 and a 4430 deere.

Both were in good condition. Both had dauls.

Deere had 6000 hrs. 1086 had 5000 hours.

4430 brought $14,000 and the 1086 brought $14,200.

Didn't think those IH's were suppose to hold their value like a Deere????

Gary

Thats the highest i've seen a 1086 go for but if you think thats bad a guy down the road from me bought a 1969 656 and paid $ 15,000 for it.and both of mine are in better shape than his.
Heck, i have 2 656's a 1966 and a 1968 and I didn't pay that much for them and that was when they were new.

Well, that's all and good....now, how do 1086's sell in comparison to 4440's? It is good to see a good IH tractor bring good money, but don't break out the champaign until a real trend is established. 4430's sold 1973-1977, 1086's sold 1977-1981 too, and 4440's sold 1978-1982 that could make a difference, couldn't it??

Gary: Have you ever talked with farmer that was without his 1960s or 70s vintage tractors during busy planting or harvest? I was never without mine, nor have I ever talked with anyone who was.

I can find you numerous folks who have been without the services of their tractor built since then. Maybe folks are just starting to realize this.

I do believe my Dad might just have a 1086 for sale if that"s the going rate! :o)

My personal observations/thoughts are that the 30 series Deeres don"t hold their value as well because of some reliability/starting problems. If upgraded to a 40 or 50 series engine you will see a tractor like that bring a fair amount more. 4440"s seem to be holding at around $20k no matter what the hours on them...

There does seem to be somewhat of trend towards lower resale value of the green paint. There also seems to be a definate decline in the sales of new green paint, versus an increase in sales of Case-IH red. At least that is what I am observing in the area around where I live.

Same here. Maybe the real "value" is starting to show.
