Chuck would gladly buy a copy...how long is your tongue? I looked and we have a good IH cyl. in the pile that dad laughed and said probably was the original to that style plow saved it before he sent it to scrap the bottoms other than wear parts what makes the supers so much better and where would one look for the super bottoms at? Long post I know email is open would love to learn more on these.. Thanks

Hi again, The super chief bottom has a one peice four bolt lay, they have been on most plows since about 1960. The X series bottoms have an offset bolt in the top hole that mounts the bottom to the beam, this allows the point to be tipped down after the lays have some wear in hard soil. The X series is available only on the super chief. The plow chief bottom has a two peice lay, like Hugh said parts are hard to find and exspensive, so if you want it for show and only occasional use they would be good. The super chief has been used on vertualy all IH plows since 1960. It should not be too hard to find one someone has junked or at a salvage yard, any IH plow be it pull type, mounted or semi-mounted all have the same. There will be a tag on the back of the molboard identifing the super chief X series if it is still readable. Unless you plan to buy new molboards be sure to get all four bottoms off one plow because there is a variety of them and they don't all throw the same. The short tonque must be about 3 ft long and the long one is about 6, it was used for a cat or onland plowing. It is nice because it straitens the angle of the tongue both sideways and verticaly. I haven't been using email lately because my computer is so slow but will watch if you want to use, and sorry I don't know how to get yours. I will copy my manual as soon as I have time, Chuck

Hi, Have a 70 5 bottom, used for years behind WD9. It is solid red except for tongue, bottoms and coulters are black. Decals consist of IH emblem on top of main beam between the 2nd and 3rd bottoms. On the side of that beam in the same location is INTERNATIONAL with 70 centered below. I like the IH 3 and 1/2 inch cylinder with the button depth control. If you intent to use any amount it would be best to find super chief bottoms preferably X Series. I like the full castering tail wheel hope yours has it, also the long tonque is easier to hitch and allows you to pull on land. I have a manual, will not part with, but would make a copy. Good luck, Chuck

Wade: Excellent plow, plow chief bottoms are a down side, super chief are much better and easier to find wear parts for. You can change the bottoms to super chief, but it will require complete change including frog. The plow frame and trip beams are the same for both.

Size of cylinder depends much on tractor as anything. Anything over 3" bore will lift it, however different sizes control speed of lift. 4" will be slower than 3". You may find 3" too fast, personally I'd go with 4". That is what I used with No. 60 and 560 tractor. The linkage on a 70 is very similar, but it does raise higher and goes deeper, thus the same cylinder would be slower on a 70.
