I am changing the trans fluid in my 140. I was told that there is a bulge in the side of the trans that oil would run out when it was full. I cannot find it. The only bulge that I can find is one near the PTO. On right hand side of the pot housing under the belt drive put when I took it out there was a spring in the hole. So I but the bulge back in. How much gear oil does it take and what is the spring for.

I for got to ask does the transmission supply oil to the PTO or do you put oil in it separate.

Tracy: If your looking for the fill to level plug, it's on the left, just below front end of left fender and almost directly behind brake activation pull rod. Roughly 4-5 quarts.

Tracy: Scott is correct, both counts. The book actually calls for 4 quarts without belt pulley or pto and 5 quarts with. Unless you parked tractor with front end high, when you drained it, plus drained pto, your probably looking at slightly over 4 quarts. I had to remove the pto from my 140 this spring, found I still had oil, jacked front of tractor close to 6" and about another 1/2 quart came out.
