Oh, OK

So that's what a grease gun looks like. Thanks. I should get one.

A new pin every year?!?!?!?! My father-in-law has a '76 model 1100 mower that still has the factory pin.

Grease the pin every hour or two hours max. New bushing every year. Grease inside the wobbler every 50 hours (or a couple shots a year).

What is the black cylinder near the top of orange mounting plate. There is also something in the same area that looks similar to a vise-grip.

Wardner, that would be a grease gun with the hose hanging down.

Adam: The balancad head mowers George and Steven have mentioned would need major modification to fit a Farmall 100. Even with that, they would be much too heavy. Those mowers were specifically designed for H, SH, 300, 330, 340, 504 and larger tractors. I had one, came with a farm I bought, mounted it twice, and after those few jambed fingers I sold it.

IH did make a balanced head mower for the offset tractors, it was called the highway mower and I think if my memory is correct the model number was C-23. The C-23 was only recomended if tractor had industrial front axle. The rear cast hub normally on right side had to be put on left, and the right rear wheel hub always had to be dished out. The reason for all this was mower weight, it would upset tractor to right under mormal wheel configureation.

The way I have it figured, if mower was that heavy it was too damn heavy for those light chassis. I'll bet those folks broke more than a few torque tubes, possibly final drives. You got to remember, most of those were bought new by various levels of governments. Common sence by those guys wasting our money is not new, they were doing it back in the 50s as well. I always figured that was not a good reason for me to waste my money, thus I don't have a C-23 mower. Back then, when mowers got that heavy, farmers went to heavier tractors for mowing, hence the models George and Steven mention.

Hugh, I think my point was that they are to heavy for the little fellows. The semi mount will work on them though. They just use the drawbar to mount to. I was wondering what was wrong with the pitman mower that was built and designed for these tractors. They always worked very well I thought. I still use an old pitman mower.

George: You raise a good point, nothing wrong with a good working pitman mower. Dad traded the 7' IH semi-mount we used behind the 130 for a 7' semi-mount NH to hook hay conditioner behind it for use behind the Farmall 300, thus eliminate one tractor. Three days into haying we struck some tangled red clover and grass. I was 4 hours getting 3 rounds on a 12 acre field. Dad decided he'd have a go. Two neighbors came along, one had a MH pacer with mid mount 6' mower and the other a Super A with 6', C-22. They got along great until they had to follow dad with the NH. All three mowers worked great unless following the NH mower. They decided the problem was swath board and stick.

Dad called the NH dealer, told him to make it work or bring back the IH mower. He said, "I can't, I already sold it." He landed in the yard with his very first NH 460 haybine, said, " Use this until I get your mower working right." The haybine never left, first time I ever saw dad trade off a 3 day old machine. The mower was new, we'd had the conditioner 3-4 years.

Hugh, why ain't you dozing this time of day? I use both the 100 series IH mowers and the C-24 and a C-21-P. The pitman mowers get along as good as the 100 with less maitainence it seems. I have to put a new pin and bushing in the 100 about twice a year, and I grease it at least twice a day or more. I very seldom do anything with the pitman mowers except cut hay. I must admit I use the JD moco quite a bit now, when I work by myself. When I have help I mow with the SC and the 100 because it just folds over to road postion without messing with those rods that hold the bar on the pitman mowers.

George: The bulldozing is a union job site, we have every 3 Fri. off, as well as Sat., Sun. and all statutory hollidays. Kind of hard for an old farm boy to hack, but I'm getting used to it.

Hugh, I agree with you. I wouldn"t mount my 1110 on the A - it"s pretty heavy and puts a lot of strain on the tractor with the bar hanging way out there.

I"m thinking next summer if I get to it I might just put that 120 semi-mount on the back of the A. Swap the 9 foot bar from there to the 100 trailer mower to be pulled by the 544, and have a 7-foot bar on the A... Just wish I had two people to help me mow, 3-mowers with one operator just doesn"t seem to get it done any faster! :o)

The model number you would be looking for would most likely be a 110, 1110, or perhaps a 115, 1115 - although the 110 and 1110 mount much more solidly to the tractor.

I have an 1110 that I would be willing to part with if the price is right. My email is open if you are interested.

Steven, is that the 9 footer? Might be a tad much on a 100.

It"s a 7-footer actually. A 5 foot and maybe a 6 foot bar were optional... I have a 7 foot 100 trailer mower (pictured above behind the H) and also a 9 foot 120 mower (pictured below)...

What happen with your handle? I see an F in it now. I have two of those semi mounts. I thought you had a 9 footer, but didn't know which was which.

Someone said once that I wasn"t exactly "at" AZ, I was "from" AZ. So I put the f/AZ when I registered over there on that modern view that so many enjoy and so many enjoy cursing... LOL

I have an abundance of mowers... hoping that my child (due in Feb) will want to run an old H with a mower on it someday... maybe start them out with the A (mount the 120 on it with a 7" bar to start them out). Just having a good time!
