The governor on our SMTA fails to respond to the load; especially noticeable while baling. Denny's Carb Shop offers a rebuild package - anyone familiar with this? Are there certain components that normally fail that I can replace with parts from CIH? Any adjustments? Tom

the last place in this world you want to buy from is Denny's Carb Shop. First off do you have a service manual for said tractor ??? If not BUY one . Next read up on the govener . More then likely the littel bushing in the gov. arms inside where the spring goes are missing , these are not a SERVICE partand will have to be made . Myself i have a guy that fixes Clocks and he makes them up for me and installs them in the arms as they are a press fit . His S/MTA was the first one that we did this way and made a whole new tractor out of it for the price of a new stock gov. spring and a small pice of bronze rod plus a couple gskt.

On advice from others here and pulling board, I put a heavier spring in mine. You might start with a new spring and go from there. I don't remember the spring number I used but I tried some different ones. You need to get one that had a turn or 2 less than the stock one. Also check adjustment and make sure the tube between the carb and governor is not inhibiting the movement of the shaft inside. I tinkered with mine for quite a while to get it right. I use it on a baler and a 12 foot hydroswing swather, the swather puts more load yet on it. I also changed the springs in the distributor so it advances more quickly and time it "by ear" instead of by marks. I went to electronic ignition because it seemed I couldn't keep the points adjusted right.
