If it is the older 3 brush genny the closer the adjustable brush is to the fixed brush next to it the more she charges. As far as Voltage Regulator air gaps n spring tension adjustments, Im not into that over the net as it can be pretty delicate. Regardless what genny or system you have, if you dead ground the gennys field post thats the MAX charge (still subject to any third brush setting) so if it still dont charge to suit you it may need some genny repair. Make sure the belt is tight and the genny and VR are both well grounded.

If you have a regulator, the regulator gets the adjustment. If you have a 3 brush (older H) then the third brush is moved to increase voltage. Voltage regulator adjustment is pretty complex, and is best done with a book on the subject. this is "Delco A" type system with regulator grounding of the field coils. There are some posts from Me and others on the topic in the archives search for above. Good luck, JimN

According to theService Manual you can adjust the 3rd brush. It doesnt say which way. Also it says the light switch should be in the H position for maximum output. Secure a a lead from the Field terminal to a screw holding the relay box (not the F terminal) for high output. This allows the generator to produce full output as regulated bynthe position of the 3rd brush. Send me your email address and I will TRY to send you these instruction.
